Coping with the dreaded lurgy in an oily kind of way

Image
I don't know about you, but I've found the cold/flu/lurgy thing that's getting about this year is way too friendly for my liking! Dang thing settles itself in without so much as an invitation and usually at the worst possible time. And then, of course, it becomes the unwanted tenant that will not leave. Sigh...  I had a run in with it a few weeks ago and it absolutely nailed me. Started off with sneezing, then the runny nose, scratchy throat and quickly worked it's way down to my chest, giving me a nasty cough with a side serving of very sore muscles around my ribs. Sore enough that it hurt to sneeze, cough, laugh, just about do anything. It arrived and settled in unbelievably fast. So much so that I didn't initially think about what oils may be helpful which sounds bonkers! Well not beyond the Easy Air (also known as Breathe) which helped me breathe at night despite a blocked nose. However after a day or two in, the light bulb went on and I remembered I

Turning the spotlight on Peppermint Oil

Image
This oil is an absolute treasure and is so versatile with a multitude of uses. It's one I never go anywhere without. It's a bit like a medicine kit in a bottle. I'd planned to share my favourite use for this oil but I have a few favourite uses making it impossible to narrow down to just one. Instead  I'll go with my top 3! 1. It is absolutely fantastic for an upset or unsettled stomach. It will settle an unhappy gurgly painful tummy in a very short space of time. For me, I've found it will ease the symptoms in 5-10 minutes and within 15-30 minutes, whatever is causing the upset has quietened down completely. Peppermint oil is now my first port of call for anything related to indigestion or stomach upset. 1-2 drops rubbed into your belly does the trick. 2. Pain - I've found it works really well for mild - moderate pain. I have a tendency to get headaches, sometimes migraines and I was incredibly surprised when I managed to ward off a migraine at work a couple

How oils can support you through grief and loss

I hadn't intended to write a post around grief and loss just yet. I felt it was one of those topics I would work up to as there were a few others I wanted to share about first.  However, as we know, life doesn't always play along with the way we think and sometimes things happen that make us realise that the 'right time' may just be now. So here I am, feeling drawn to share how these beautiful oils have been supporting me following the loss of my beloved Mum just a few weeks ago. I've been using doTERRA essential oils daily for months now, but the support they've given me in recent weeks has been surprising and beautiful.  This post may seem a little self indulgent because I'm sharing my own experience and discussing a number of oils, however, while it's deep and personal to me, I share in the hope that my experience may also offer support for others.  About 6 weeks ago, Mum had a fall and sustained some injuries. We were told due to her age and

Lets talk about oily goodness...

Essential oils... have you ever used them? Like many people, they have been a part of my life in one form or another for as long as I can remember. Remedies and uses passed on through the ages from grandmother to mother and aunts, then passed down to me and my sister. Some purely for their scents, others for health, wellness and household uses. A few drops of lavender sprinkled on a pillow for a sound sleep; eucalyptus to help with a cold or snuffly nose, use as a disinfectant or rinse aid; tea tree oil for everything under the sun, particularly when it came to cuts and grazes; peppermint oil to help keep the tiny little kitchen ants away; a drop of clove oil on a cotton bud cautiously applied for a toothache (you sure don't want to taste that stuff!!) and beautiful neroli used as a scent. I've always loved and incorporated them into my life somehow, mostly without too much thought. My sister has a background in natural therapies, my Mum did reflexology, and I've always
